DEVOTION:Can God Get This From You?‏

The Holly Spirit keeps bringing to my mind a few verses from our passage a few days ago. It’s a thought I was going to skip but I believe God would like us to meditate upon it. This is something I have never seen before, nor have I seen it stated the way God has stated it here.

Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it. Jeremiah 33:6-9

In this passage God is describing how He will again bless His chosen people when He brings them back to inhabit the Promised Land. It is in this description that we find a very interesting thought for today. Let us read the first part of this passage:

Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Jeremiah 33:6-8

Then He continues to describe the results of these blessings to the city of Jerusalem.

Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it. Jeremiah 33:9

Did you get this? The city of Jerusalem i.e. the people of Jerusalem will bring God “Renown, joy, praise, and honor before all the nations on earth”!

APPLICATION:

  1. The above thought can be stated in a different way to make it more understandable to us. God’s blessing in your life is intended to bring God renown, joy, praises, and honor before those who are around you.
  2. Here are some instructions from our Lord Jesus Christ that might offer some help to us as we meditate upon this thought today.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

  1. Take this statement apart and answer each of the following questions:
    1. How do God’s blessings in your life bring joy to God?
    2. How do God’s blessings in your life bring praise to God?
    3. How do God’s blessings in your life bring honor to God?
  2. Is there any other way that you understand this verse? In what way does it help you today? In other words, how can you apply this thought to your life today?

Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise

And honor before all nations on earth that

Hear of all the good things I do for it; and

They will be in awe and will tremble

  At the abundant prosperity and

 Peace I provide for it.

Jeremiah 33:9
