MOURNERS gathered at the Nairobi Chapel yesterday for Mbugua Mwangi and Rosemary Wahito’s funeral service. Mbugua and Wahito lost their lives in the Westgate Mall terrorist attack. He was President Uhuru’s nephew.
Wahito was Mbugua’s fiancée. Uhuru, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, nominated Senator Beth Mugo and other government officials attended the service. The President said Mbugua was the best nephew any uncle would ask for and a great role model to many. “He will remain in our hearts.
I hope those he mentored continue with his great work,” he said. Uhuru called on Kenyans to be calm as the government has heightened security in the country. He said last Saturday’s attack will not deter the government’s efforts to fight terrorism. “I assure Kenyans the country is safe and secure,” Uhuru said.
Mugo said the attackers failed miserably. “This attack and loss has helped us be better parents, to bring up better people for a better nation,” she said. Mugo said Mbugua and Wahito will be buried together as they had proven their love for each other until their last breath. Mbugua was shot seven times while protecting Wahito who got shot once.
Wahito was buried in her wedding gown and Mbugua in his suit. They had already started preparations for their wedding. The church was decorated with flowers and the colour themes the two had chosen for their wedding. They were buried in Ichaweri, Gatundu South.
