Inspiration:But He Promised

0

I sat looking at her face, not sure what God was going to do in the one hour session. Her eyes filled with tears, I reached out and hugged her, she did not want to let go of me, though we were both getting our shoulders wet from the tears. She cried tears of brokenness and cried tears of emotions moved by her condition. When we sat down, the first words that came out of her mouth over and over again were “But he promised to marry me.” What is “a promise” It is a commitment by someone to do or not to do something. We live in a world where we have seen promises broken, we even have been in situations where we our selves have failed to keep our promises to each other, either willingly or unwillingly. But there is one who made a promise to you and I, he will never break it, he will stay true to it that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Walking in this life’s journey with its ups and downs, at times filled with moments of deep disappointments, failure and regrets of what should have not been and what should have been. Faced with many choices and being pulled by the popular thing to do, regardless of whether it’s the right thing to do or not. I have learned that there is one thing that will always motivate your right and moral decisions, and that is always remembering the promise that the Lord Jesus has made to you. When you know him in a personal way, and are intimate with him, it’s easy to close the world out and hear his voice. When you know that Jesus made a promise that he will always keep, your attitudes towards life’s failures changed to that of David in psalms 27:10 “When my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up”. Or have Apostle Paul’s attitude in II Timothy 1:12 ” For this reason I also suffer these things ; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep what I have committed to him till that day” According to research there are 3573 promises in the bible. The word promise itself occurs thirteen times in the King James Version. Now the promises of God are conditional, there is a condition that must be met, for a particular promise to function in your life. For example in Rev 3:5 says “He who overcomes” be clothed, Rev 21:7 “He who overcomes shall inherit”. Through out the Old Testament you can pick up a thread or term of “If you” if you hearken to my voice, ‘if you keep my commandments’.

He made a promise, the joy of clinging to God’s promises in this life is when you have a relationship with him, know who you are in him, who is involved in your life, what to expect, why and when to expect it. You have confidence in storms of life or even in the fire. Recently I was thinking about the popular quote “knowledge is power and after critically analyzing it, I have personally decided to frame it differently to say “applied knowledge is power. The knowledge of an existing dormant power of electricity in your house does not light up your dark rooms till you flip the switch on. Readiness and preparedness in any given area or seasons of our lives springs from the knowledge of what the word of God says about us, and applying that knowledge into our personal daily walk with him. When my children went to college and started living away from me in San Francisco, I spent many sleepless nights worrying about them, on my agenda every morning was to call them and make sure that they had a safe night and were getting ready for class .Over time, this feeling of wanting to know they were safe each hour consumed, and I knew I was in deep trouble, so I decided to ask the Lord on what my options were. Amazingly, he did not say a word to me that whole week, till one day, I got a phone call from a dear friend and a fellow servant of God, who said this to me, ‘God’s covenant to you, is for you and your children’s children’ and he continued to say, “The children of the righteous are blessed” He said that was all he had to say to me, and he prayed with me and hang up.

Since then, I have clung to this promise for protection, safety and peace of mind in regards to my children. I am sure as you read this, you are asking if is there a promise in God’s word that I can cling to , for my brokenness, my pain, sickness, divorce, separation, shame, embarrassment, rejection, sorrow or even in the death of a loved one. And yes there is, God’s word is full of promises that are meant to lift us up from any kind of situation, remember it’s not to always get us out of the situations, at times he walks with us in that darkness, reassuring us of his presence besides us. In your circumstance today, look for him, he is in your situation, he is in that place where you cannot feel him nor touch him. His promise to you is, to never leave you nor forsake you, do not be terrified of what you are going through. The human judgments, condemnation from the enemy will meet with the power of God. The Lord wants you to be strong and courageous. He has gone before you and is with you now, he will walk you through this season, he will guide you through what you term as your dark moments today, be it sickness, relationships, finances or tough decisions.

Child of God! Are you desperate for a promise that you can cling to for your situation? Ask the Holy Spirit to bring in into your remembrance, let him quicken you to it, or allow him to lead you to it, in his own way, channel or method. As you begin your week, know that his promises can reassure you, motivate you, strengthen you and keep you safe.

I would like to invite you into a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus this week, not religion, denomination, not rules of do’s and don’ts but knowing him and learning to hear his voice. By repenting of your sins, you can do by simply reading this shot sentence out “Lord Jesus forgive me of all my sins and come into my life be my lord and savior”
