Video:Talented Kenyan-American boy performs with BSU jazz ensemble in Maryland
Kenyan American born Muchiri Mbugua, a talented 6 grader saxophonist was one of two children invited to participate in the production by The Bowie State University’s Community Jazz Band Ensemble, incorporating renowned artists under the direction of Dr. Clarence Knight.Tis The Season: A Holiday Celebration production was an opportunity for the community to join in the joy of holiday music.
Muchiri has been playing the alto saxophone for nearly three years. Muchiri is a self-directed learner – who understands and appreciates the importance of pursuing learning. He has been in the Gifted and Talented program since elementary. His favorite subject is math and aspires to be a physician.
An astute scholar, Muchiri has been recognized for his academics by the John’s Hopkins – Center for Talented Youth, Black Student Achievement Program, among others. His love for sports has earned him sportsmanship awards, especially in football and basketball. Muchiri is the eldest of three siblings and resides in Maryland with his family.
