NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 28 – President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday dismissed as rumours, reports in section of the media that he intended to make new appointments or reshuffle his Cabinet.
The Head of State was speaking at State House, Nairobi when he fielded questions from journalists.
President Kenyatta urged the media to stop misleading the public on pertinent issues and avoid peddling falsehoods which are only retrogressive.
“I am yet to stand before you (the media) with the intention of announcing an expanded or a reshuffled Cabinet. Perhaps you can ask the editor of the Star newspaper, so that I can also get to be informed on where he got that information,” he said.
The newspaper recently suggested that President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are considering increasing the number of ministries to 20 instead of the 18 announced last year.
Reports have been rife that the President is likely to create a new ministry for former Deputy Prime Minister and one time Vice President Musalia Mudavadi.
The United Democratic Forum party leader who came third in last year’s presidential election, signed a post-election deal with Jubilee Coalition.
According to The Star newspaper article published on January 14, the delay in naming additional nominees is apparently because the two principals are yet to agree on how to distribute the positions.
The article suggests that the President wants to name the four more nominees to the Cabinet as soon as possible.
