Uhuru’s kin carjacked, robbed
NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 12 – Police are looking for gunmen who carjacked President Uhuru Kenyatta’s aunt on Tuesday night in Nairobi.
According to police, the gunmen carjacked the president’s kin identified as Jean Njeri Muhoho on Uhuru Highway at about 8pm on Tuesday.
She was taken to the Northern bypass where she was abandoned alongside the driver of the car, but none of them was harmed.
The two told police that they were in traffic when three gunmen forced their way into the car and took control of it.
Nairobi Police Chief Benson Kibue said the two were robbed of mobile phones, an ATM card, driving license, pair of shoes and Sh20,000.
He said police are so far treating the incident as a normal robbery but would also seek to establish if the gang had any other motive, or if they knew their target.
Kibue said they have intensified security patrols in the city to curb crime, particularly carjackings and burglaries which have lately increased.
In the last two weeks, there have been various incidents of burglaries especially in affluent areas like Karen, Runda, Kileleshwa among others previously considered secure.
Just recently, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo and his wife were attacked and robbed at their Karen home by gunmen who also stole electronics and other valuables.
Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Kenya Wahidur Rahman was also attacked at his home in Karen two weeks ago by gunmen who stole valuables and electronics in what police blamed on a possible collusion with his workers.-capitalfm.co.ke
