Raila’s close ally and ODM party point man Keittany passes on

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s close ally and long serving Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party point man in North Rift region Said Keittany is dead.

Keittany who has been the party’s national trustee passed on last night at his ancestral home in Kolol village that overlooks the Kerio Valley in Elgeyo Marakwet county.  According to his young brother, retired chief Rashid Chebii, the deceased has been ailing for along time on and off due to heart related complication.

“Our elder brother has been suffering from heart complication problem for along time and he succumbed to the disease last night while in his sleep at Kolol village where he had relocated for a while,” Chebii explained.

Chebii said that the deceased was set to be buried on Wednesday in line with the Islamic tradition.  The deceased who was the first born son of the late Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu paramount chief Alhaji Keittnay has been instrumental in organizing party meetings attended by the former PM in the region.

Before his death, Keittany was Uasin Gishu county national delegate and also Elgeyo Marakwet council of elder.  A cross-section of orange party leaders in North Rift region send message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased describing his demise as a big blow to the party.

Led by the regional coordinator David Songo, Uasin Gishu county secretary Charles Tanui and Elgeyo Marakwet county chairman Samuel Chemweno said the death of Keittany has left a big vacuum in the region that would be hard to fill.
