The case of two bodies lying in the streets for three and a half days displayed to the world would have seemed a crazy idea 25 years ago. But recent obsession by CNN on the disappearance of Malaysian MH370, and the world’s viewing of this event, proves that the bodies on the street can be viewed by the whole world. Social media has penetrated into the remotest parts of the earth. Even the villager in Kosirai is communicating with family members who are in Minnesota using WhatsAp!
The progression of technology has great advantages to families who in the past had to write letters and wait for a letter back. The value of satellite and cable news keep the world connected and gives the human species a method of communication. The world community can now solve a regional tragedy instantly. The case of the girls in Northern Nigeria who were kidnapped by Islamic extremists has a mother in Walla Walla concerned and praying for the families of the innocent children. One community’s pain becomes pain shared by all.
Driving down Arkansas, the voice on the radio got me interested: In fact hooked to the station for miles. He was making a case that a company has developed a chip that can be inserted under the skin. The chip can contain all personal information. It can also have a code for a person’s credit card information. That means, when a person goes to a hospital, the doctor needs to just scan the skin. After grocery shopping, one just need to move the hand across the scanner and the credit card data under the skin authorizes payment. Your family can track you online!
During the 1st Century AD, a man made a case on behalf of God. He talked about these two men whose message will be so painful to the world that they will kill them. The whole earth will see these two bodies. Those who heard him make this case must have thought he is insane. But with modern instant global communication, it dawned on me.
Listen to this 60AD claim. “ . . . And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascended out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindred and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and a half, and shall not suffer (allow) their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and a half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them that saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.” (Revelation 11:3-12. NKJV). This will be a media barbecue!
It is Amazing to think that the writer (John) looking around the terrain and seeing donkeys, mules, and foot walkers could postulate his words to an age when humanity can participate in a global event. Whether a person believes this to be divinely instituted or not is personal. However, even if the narrative was devoid of prophecy, and I believe it is prophetic, its’ implication is nothing but phenomenon!
The progression of history does not disqualify Divine Imperatives. Rather, it affirms them.
