Linturi hints at plans to drop Waiguru motion

NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 8 – Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi has hinted at plans to drop a censure motion seeking to remove Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru from office in a week’s time.

Although the MP did not state categorically that he intends to withdraw the motion, the wording of his statement at the weekend were a clear indication he is not willing to hold onto it.

“I would not like to be the one who brings stress within the Jubilee Coalition, therefore I am asking that you give me time so that I can consult my supporters back at home and also you know I had an army that I had recruited to execute this mission. Just give me one week and I will tell you the way forward,” he said.

Linturi said he wants to consult the over 100 National Assembly members who had backed his motion before making a decision.

Linturi had last week said he will not be cowed into dropping his motion even after joining other leaders from Mount Kenya region to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

Prior to the meeting, the Deputy President had asked anyone with a problem with the dismissal of Kiplimo Rugut from the National Youth Service (NYS) to ask him or the president.

Some Meru leaders have differed with him over the motion, saying he is causing disharmony within the ruling Coalition.

Linturi filed a petition seeking the removal of Waiguru from office two weeks ago for transferring Rugut from NYS.

“The motion brought by my brother Linturi is causing a lot of disharmony in the Coalition; It is causing problems for the president and now even for the deputy president. We don’t want to hear that a Meru is the one disturbing the government of President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta,” Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki said.
