Ida’s mother Rosa Oyoo fundraiser was snubbed by political heavyweights including Cord leader Raila Odinga. Fidel Odinga and Justice Ouko attended the event that raised one million shillings.
President’s director of political affairs Joshua Kutuny handed the presidents contribution.Kutuny donated sh50,000 during the funds drive.
Mama Rosa died on Thursday last week at St Joseph’s Mission Hospital Ombo in Migori Town. Rosa who was in her late 90s, was the first African nurse.
Raila on Friday flew to Migori with Cord co-principal Moses Wetang’ula from a rally in Kisii to console the family.
Kutuny during the fundraiser said President Uhuru Kenyatta is committed to ensuring he reaches to all leaders across the political divide in a move to forge a united front that will be tailor-made to tackle challenges the country is facing.
Kutuny said the government is not keen on engaging in to flexing muscles with the opposition but rather to foster unity of purpose.
“The government reckons that the same challenges that faces the jubilee supporters are faced by CORD supporters hence the need to address them with a bipartisan approach,” Kutuny.
He downplayed perceptions that the president was ignoring the opposition saying the government has allowed them to express their will on national issues.
“It should be understood that the president accords respect to the opposition that’s why his government has not tried to thwart their freedom of speech,” affirmed Kutuny.
Kutuny further said the Jubilee government was equally finding a lasting solution to challenges being faced by Kenyans as promised in its pre-election pledges.
