Video:MCAs impeach Machakos Deputy Governor

bkiala100714NAIROBI, Kenya, July 23 – The Machakos County Assembly on Wednesday impeached the Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala.

Forty Members of the County Assembly voted in favour of his removal while only 19 were on his side.

A few weeks ago, Kiala sensationally alleged that he had been ejected from a Cabinet sitting and his car withdrawn forcing him to walk to his office almost 5 kilometres away.

Footage from the county’s CCTV cameras that coincidentally fall under the Deputy Governor’s docket proved the claims to be false as he was captured boarding the vehicle assigned to him as a replacement, as he left his office.

Kiala had insisted that Governor Alfred Mutua had withdrawn his official car and security personnel.

Mutua said his deputy had been allocated two four-wheel drive cars for his official use and that had not changed.

“Kiala left the Cabinet meeting at the Governor’s office; he rode in his assigned Government Subaru Outback to his office. He then proceeded to call a press conference and lie that he had walked for five kilometres. He then walked to the main road, climbed into a matatu for a stage-managed photo shoot,” the Governor said in a press statement on July 10.

“He then alighted from the matatu, went back to his office where he stayed for a while before driving out of town in his car.”

The Deputy Governor had claimed that his boss had issued orders blocking him from using the official cars and also withdrawn his security after Kiala attended CORD rally at Kenyatta Stadium.

Kiala’s fate now lies with the Senate.
