Lenku:10,000 retired cops will be used to bolster security
NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 12 – The government will now incorporate 10,000 retired police officers into community policing to help restore security in the country.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku says the retired officers are instrumental in sharing their experience on how to deal with insecurity challenges.
Lenku who spoke to journalists after meeting the retirees at Harambee House on Tuesday morning said a legislative framework will be drafted to support the initiative.
The government is grappling with insecurity challenges posed by Al Shabaab militants who have vowed revenge attacks unless the Kenyan military is withdrawn from Somalia.
