Nairobi, Kenya: Former Kenya Air Force Commander Joff Otieno has dispelled rumours that he was forced out of the military.
Major General Otieno, Kenya’s ambassadorial nominee to Egypt, told the House Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations that he left the military after reaching the mandatory age for retirement – 58 years – for officers of his rank.
“On July 30 this year, I retired from the military after reaching the mandatory age for retirement,” he said.
Joseph Lekuton (Laisamis) remarked that it was good that Otieno had set the record straight on the circumstances that led to his exit from the military. “There have been allegations that you were forcibly retired. It is good that you have clarified that you reached retirement age,” Lekuton said.
He said he had served in the military for 33 years, and that during the period he had gained useful leadership experience.
Asked by Yussuf Hassan (Kamukunji) if he supports Government takeover through violent means, the nominee responded in the negative.
