DEVOTION:When God heard you, what did He hear from you?

While there seemed to have been no hope for righteousness in the Land of Judah, there was a remnant that feared the Lord. It is this remnant that the Lord was paying attention to.  For on this occasion it is recorded:

Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. Malachi 3:16

This is a very interesting passage that has many lessons for us. The Lord actually pays attention to believers when they meet to fellowship. And he takes notes on what believers are saying. And this is recorded for future use.  It is therefore important for us to be careful on that what we say, because the Lord is listening.

This is why, I am asking you, when God heard you, what did He hear from you?

APPLICATION:

1.       Did you know that the Lord pays attention to what comes out of your mouth every time you talk? Read the words of Jesus in the following verses.

a.    But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37

b.   The lord does not just hear, He records it for the Day of Judgment.

2.       Do you pay attention to what comes out of your mouth? In other words, do you evaluate what you are going to say before you let it out? Remember, what has been said cannot be unsaid.

3.       The tendency for some believers when they meet is to gossip about other believers. This is sometimes done in the guise of “we need to pray for them”. But before that prayer is offered, hours of discussing the concerned parties will have passed with words that are not glorifying to God having been uttered.

4.       Next time you meet with other believers, be on guard against anything that is not glorifying to God. Be the conscience of the group by pointing out that this is not appropriate language for us believers. Always remember this verse.

a.   Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

5.       Is there anything you will do differently today as a result of this lesson?

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

For by your words you will be acquitted, and

by your words you will be condemned.”

Matthew 12:36-37
