Purpose, Potential & Myles Munroe´s Legacy

“The wealthiest places in the world are not gold mines, oil fields, diamond mines or banks. The wealthiest place is the cemetery. There lies companies that were never started, masterpieces that were never painted… In the cemetery there is buried the greatest treasure of untapped potential. There is a treasure within you that must come out. Don’t go to the grave with your treasure still within YOU” –  Dr Myles Munroe

In line with honouring Dr Myles Munroe, this blog is a short review of podcast episode # 6 of http://www.LiveByDesignRadio.com On the show you are both encouraged and inspired on thought-provoking questions like;

Would you take your treasure with you to the grave if you departed planet earth today?

Are you living a life of purpose, aspiring to fulfil your potential?

Is fear stopping you from working your talents?

Fear is and has always been a major hindrance to people stepping out into their potential and following their dreams. It’s something we all have to face. The secret is Do It Afraid and Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway.

Here are just three examples of fears we all face; and an antidote for each.

Fear # 1: PEOPLE – What will others say? What if they criticize or reject me?

Antidote:  People will ALWAYS have something to say. As Aristotle said; “To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”  (Even when you say, do, be nothing; folks will still criticize) :-) It´s your life…So go on and live it minding your own business.

Fear # 2: FAILURE – What if I step out and follow my dream and I fall flat on my face? What if it doesn’t´ work?

Antidote:  Fail forward. Life is an exciting adventure. Full of feedback (not fear) opportunities. Remember you were not born walking. You crawled, stood, then attempting baby steps you failed forwards. Often bruising and bloodying your knees. But you kept getting up and today you can run! Such is life, rinse and repeat…

Fear # 3: SUCCESS – What if it DOES work and you start living my dream? It means more work, more responsibility…

Antidote: Would you rather regret when you came to the end of your life? As you lie there, wondering how differently everything would have turned out.

If only…

If only you had pursued that degree, started that business. If only you had written that book, married that girl.  If only….you fill in the blanks of the dreams that keep you awake at night.

I know all too well out of personal experience, all three fears can be plain paralyzing! Snuggling up in your comfy couch bing- watching Tyrant on Netflix, and eating popcorn is way easier than standing up with weak knees shaking off the doubts, inner critique and your naysayers to work a plan. But you just have to feel the fear and take steps in the direction of your dreams. It´s fulfilling, fun and you grow in many aspects.

Action breaks the paralysis. So if you sense there is more to your life than what you are enduring and you desire to be all you were created to be, then refuse to allow inertia, the status quo and the cemetery to rob you of your destiny and legacy.

Life is a gift. And an exciting adventure. It´s not a dress rehearsal. Don´t bury your potential and talents. One day you may wake up and it’s too late. There are treasures inside you. Talents, gifts, skills that will be a blessing to the world. Because you were born for such a time as this, created with a purpose and destiny. Have a plan and work your plan, always remaining flexible to your Makers master plan. Because as it is written; “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)
