Corridors of Power:Isaac Rutto and Kipchumba Murkomen in trouble

This Christmas seems not to have been a merry one for Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto. It started with a backlash after he recently reshuffled departmental heads. One of his key officers seemed upset by the move and took her grievances to her Facebook account, where she cited betrayal of a high magnitude. By coincidence or otherwise, bloggers from the county hinted at a change of stance while some of them openly attacked the governor in what some see as a deal gone sour.

Billboards with portraits of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and Senator Mike Sonko could not be missed by those who used Uhuru Highway and Mombasa Road this festive season. The billboards, carrying a message of goodwill and happy holidays to Kenyans from the three leaders, have been a conspicuous element on the road. After seeing them all the way from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a two-term MP from the Rift Valley was overheard wondering aloud who has met the cost of putting up the billboards.

The war between Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and some Rift Valley leaders over the exit of former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo is becoming more complicated. The latest entry in the war is Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, who has joined the bandwagon of those who accuse Murkomen of having a hand in Kimaiyo’s woes.
