Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo is recuperating at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu after collapsing Tuesday night.
The MP reportedly collapsed after daylong campaigns for the Homa Bay ODM senatorial candidate Moses Kajwang’.
He was rushed to the hospital by Kaluonyo MCA Peter Kaula’s aides and his driver after he collapsed on his way to the ward representative’s home in Kendu Bay.
Mr Kaula said the legislator got disoriented at Kendu Bay on his way to the ward rep’s home.
“Some boda boda people saw him alight from a friend’s car and he appeared weak.
“They struggled to ferry him and Mr Midiwo lost an estimated Sh10,000 in the process,” said Mr Kaula by phone.
He added that the riders unsuccessfully tried to break to the MP’s briefcase.
“My personal assistant saw all that and intervened. That is when he (Midiwo) was brought to my home.
“I called his driver and they took him to hospital,” Mr Kaula added.
The hospital’s medical director Sam Oula told Nation.co.ke that Mr Midiwo’s had low blood pressure and he had signs of fatigue.
“He is a known case of diabetes and his blood pressure was really low at the time he came in. He was admitted here at 10pm and the doctors worked hard to stabilise him,” said Dr Oula.
He has since been moved from the intensive care unit to the hospital’s private wing, he added.
Dr Oula said further tests will be done on the MP to ensure that his heart is stable.
