I am ready to step down over corruption- IEBC boss Isaack Hassan

IEBC chairman Isaack Hassan has said he is ready to step aside if found on the EACC graft list.

The list said to have more than 175 names of public officials was handed to President Uhuru Kenyatta by the EACC, and is set to be tabled on Tuesday.

“I don’t feel pressure after Davis Chirchir stepped aside. He did so because of his ministerial duties,” Hassan said.

He spoke at the signing of an MoU with the Association of World Electoral Bodies at Laico Regency, Nairobi on Monday.

Hassan has maintained that he was not involved in the ‘Chickengate’ scandal and has threatened to sue the media for mentioning him in it.

Chirchir, the Energy CS, left office for the probe insisting that he was innocent and unaware of the accusations against him.

He is among five cabinet secretaries who allegedly plan to storm the EACC headquarters demanding to what they have done wrong and who their accusers are.

Hassan said the commission drew lessons from the 2013 general election and will streamline future polls.

The MoU concerns training IEBC officials on ICT-dependent elections. It covers voter identification and registration, and results transmission.
