Kisumu MP under fire for calling Raila ‘retired prime minister’ in front of Uhuru

Rose NyamungaKisumu women’s rep Rose Nyamunga has been accused of undermining Cord leader Raila Odinga by referring to him as “retired prime minister”.

Nyamunga made the reference in her speech on Tuesday, during the devolution conference at Tom Mboya Labour College, Kisumu.

She apologised and withdrew following murmurs from a section of the meeting.

“I read mischief in her and I believe that she designed it to humiliate Raila in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta who has been cajoling him to retire from active politics,” said lawyer Shabban Kassim.

Kassim said Nyamunga’s reference, whether intentional or not, was to her own detriment.

“Nyamunga’s script was a replica of Jubilee’s and was not a political accident as she claims,” he said.

“She will be the one who will be forced to retire by the electorates rather than Raila whom she referred to as retired.”

Jubilee leaders have continued to push for Raila and Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka’s retirement from active politics.

The two however said they will not not be forced to retire in order to earn benefits.

Raila has in the past told the leaders off saying he is living comfortably without the benefits.
