Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago on Monday said homosexuality will not be tolerated in Eldoret.

He said those who want to engage in homosexuality should do so outside the county because he would crack down on them.

“You can form your associations or groups but please operate from elsewhere,” Mandago said.

He was speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations.

Mandago said a house used by the homosexuals in Eldoret had been identified and will be shut down.

“Currently, the ratio of men to women is one to seven. As a man what reason do you have to engage in homosexuality?” he said.

Mandago asked parents to monitor their children’s activities.

He said some university students were being lured to engage in homosexual acts, drugs and alcohol abuse, among other “immoral acts”.

“Some parents take their children to college but never follow up to know how they get along. As a parent you have to know where your child gets money to pay rent and buy things you didn’t budget for,” the governor said.

The government also has ordered surveillance of guest houses in Eldoret suspected to be harbouring criminals, including terror suspects.
