ODM plan to save sugar industry is tribal and dangerous- Murkomen

MurkomenThe ODM’s approach to salvaging the sugar industry has been termed as exclusive as Raila Odinga’s 2007 strategy for the presidency.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said the strategy “intentionally” excludes Mt Kenya region and is “tribal and dangerous”.

“ODM economics are simple; to revive the sugar sector, kill the dairy sector. And you wonder why Tinga failed to be President?” he said via Twitter on Wednesday.

Murkomen restated that Raila is the “Lord of Poverty” whose “equality strategy is simple; Make everyone poor except himself”.

The senator joined the continuing row over the sugar deal which has seen politicians lash out at each other.

Raila has been critical of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s saying the agreement is “at the expense of the interests of 10 million poor Kenyans”.

Deputy President William Ruto and National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale accused Raila of having a role in the problems facing the industry.

Ruto claimed Raila sacked him as Agriculture minister during his tenure as Prime Minister, saying he had cancelled the licenses of cartels thereby ending their schemes.

But Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua said Ruto was fired from the Cabinet in 2011 for illegally acquiring and selling a government forest in Ngong.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko asked politicians to stop abusing each other over the sugar deal, and focus on lowering production costs and prices.

Cord is planning a series of rallies in Western and Nyanza to explain to sugarcane farmers what the Uganda sugar pact means to them.
