Kenya lobbying for Amb. Amina Mohamed to be next UN Secretary General


Amina-MohamedKenya is pushing for Foreign Affairs CS to be the next United Nations Secretary General when Ban Ki Moon exits in December 2016.

It is a long shot, considering that Moon took over from Koffi Annan, an African, however, with Kenya everything is worth trying. If Kenya pulls this through, Amina will be the first woman UN top diplomat after 8 men.

Before joining Jubilee regime as foreign affairs secretary, Amb. Amina served as Assistant UN Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme.

Her most prominent international lobbying has been pulling President Uhuru out of the ICC dragnet, where Kenya forced a rule change which saw the case against President Uhuru collapse. However, the same rule change strengthened the case against Uhuru’s co-accused, Deputy President William Ruto.
