Just a day after proposing Members of Parliament, Senators, Governors and other state officials take pay cuts, Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba took a flight to New York on business class, in what is thought to be a State sponsored trip.
Namwamba is part of a delegation accompanying President Kenyatta for 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Depending on the airline, a business class return ticket can be upwards of Sh400,000. Assuming a good part of the delegation will travel in similar style, you can see the cost to the taxpayer. Multiply that by the number of state sponsored trips that happen all year round.
So, I’m sorry Mr. President, if we can afford such lavish spending, I’m sure we can pay teachers too.
Plus for Namwamba, your pay cut proposal would make more sense if it is accompanied by overall savings. You should lead from the front and take an economy seat for example, unless you are paying your own ticket.
