Senators Angered by Alfred Mutua’s ‘Arrogance’
Senators termed the Governor’s action as “arrogant and primitive”. The Senate was angered by Mutua for ignoring protocol and after allegedly denying the Speaker a chance to send a message of condolence on behalf of the Senate.
In a Senate meeting on Wednesday evening, the legislators demanded an explanation from the Governor as to why he publicly humiliated Mr Ethuro.
“The circumstances under which you were given a blackout by the Governor, who has been running a cinema in the county, is an embarrassment and it is important we get the official position.” Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said.
Murkomen revealed that he had asked Mr Mutua to invite Ethuro to speak, but he declined citing that the Speaker was too junior to be invited by him.
Senate Majority Leader Kindiki Kithure assured the house that he would ensure that the Machakos Governor explains his misconduct at the public meeting.
“I will personally pursue this matter for Senate to be told who directed and encouraged the Speaker of the Senate to be demeaned. We cannot allow the Speaker of this House to be humiliated in public,” Kithure said.
This comes as the latest incident in which Governor Mutua is in the eye of a political storm. He has previously clashed with other polititical leaders from the Ukambani region who feel that he is trying to woo the electorate and gain political mileage in theUkambani region.
According to Mutua, however, his critics are opposed to his outstanding ledership in the region.
