Uhuru eulogises Sonko’s father as mentor, courageous elder

sonkoPresident Uhuru Kenyatta has eulogised Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s father as a good and inspiring businessman.

“His word was his bond,” Uhuru said of Gideon Kivanguli who died on Sunday night, further describing him as a mentor.

“Mzee Kivanguli was a humble, kind, generous and courageous elder,” he said in a statement to newsrooms on Monday.

“His devotion to family and the church was outstanding. His counsel was often sought by and beyond his community.”

“Margaret and I are filled with grief and a deep sense of loss as we send you this message of condolence.”

Deputy President William Ruto condoled with Sonko via Twitter on Sunday, while Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero sent his message via Facebook.

“My wife Susan and I, and the people of Nairobi, offer sincere condolences and our deepest sympathy to you and your family at this heart-rending time,” he said.

“I ask for God’s blessings and comfort during this moment. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence, and in knowing that his was a life well-lived.”

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale said; “My condolences to Senator Mike Sonko and his family following the death of his lovely father Mzee Gideon. May he rest in peace”.

Sonko thanked Kenyans for their prayers while informing them of his father’s death.

“Continue praying for our family and all those in similar situations,” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

Kivanguli died at Nairobi Hospital where he had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit last Friday.
