ODM officials in Kisumu want mourners who do not produce their identity and voters cards barred from โ€œfeasting at funeralsโ€.

The officials urged funeral committees to adhere to the directive to encourage more people to register as voters.

They also want passengers to produce the two documents before they are allowed to board public service vehicles.

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma on Friday said they want to be ready for 2017 elections.

He addressed mourners during the burial of ODM youth Austine Abuya in Muhuru, Nyatike, Migori county.

Ranguma said that in 2013 elections, more than 1.8 million registered voters in Nyanza did not vote.

โ€œIn Western, more than one million registered voters also did not turn out to vote and this was to the disadvantage of our candidate Raila Odinga,โ€ he said.

Kisumu Central ODM chairman Seth Ochiengโ€™ said: โ€œWe urge that from today, you monitor such vital documents and only serve food to those who produce them.โ€

Constituency treasurer Edward Ogolla said passengers who do not produce the documents should not be allowed to travel.
