ODM has said suspected kidnapper Dishon Mulinge aka Swaleh is neither a member of the party nor a youth coordinator.

Mulinge was allegedly one of the planners of the kidnapping of Mwananchi Microfinance MD Dennis Mombo.

In a statement on Wednesday, ODM Executive director Oduor Ong’wen said “it is far from the truth” that Mulinge holds the post.

“Mulinge’s name does not feature anywhere in the hierarchy of the Orange Youth League and he is not an official of the party at any level,” Ong’wen said.

“The ODM youth coordinator is Benson Musungu who is based at Orange House, the party headquarters. The position is only held by one person at any given time.”

He added that the party’s officials, who were duly elected and registered, are known to the public.

Mulinge allegedly gave a sum of Sh160,000 used to rent an apartment in which Mombo was held after he was kidnapped in October.

The MD was held in the house directly opposite his for five hours as the kidnappers demanded Sh20 million ransom.

The Kileleshwa apartment, where police found guns, including an M6 and two pistols, was leased for a month.

Mulinge was charged with kidnapping alongside Hussein Kindugwa, a manager at Mwananchi Microfinance.

He was also charged with robbery with violence, forgery and additional charges of being in illegal possession of two rifles and a pistol.

He denied the charges and was released on Sh1 million bond.
