Four rebel CORD legislators have told ODM leader Raila Odinga to forget about ever becoming president because he was too confrontational.
Speaking in Kilifi after attending a function presided over by two Cabinet Secretaries, Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungaro dismissed claims by CORD leaders that the Jubilee government had failed to deliver on its elections pledge to launch development projects that promote economic growth.
Mungaro defended the government’s track record and noted that many development projects had been commissioned to improve the lives of Kenyans, with road construction and the installation of street lights being some of the major infrastructure projects rolled out.
Another of the MPs present, Mustafa Idi of Kilifi South, said it is only the government in office that can marshal resources to commission development projects.
“The opposition has noting to offer because it cannot drive development projects,” said Idi, even as he asked governors to work with the national government to manage some of these projects.
MPs Mungaro, Idi, Peter Shehe (Ganze) and Kwale County MP Zainab Chidzuga faulted Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi for skipping the function at Kilifi County Referral Hospital.
The leaders also said they still recognise Mr Mung’aro as the chairman of the Coast Parliamentary Group and dismissed his ouster in April by other local politicians.
Mr Shehe accused the Opposition of fomenting unrest by leading protests to press for reforms in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. These demonstration had led to deaths and loss of property, the Ganze MP claimed.
“Raila and others have led unnecessary demonstrations that have led to deaths of innocent Kenyans and loss of property,” said Shehe.
Ms Chidzuga the Jubilee government had set aside startup funds so that women, youths and persons with disability can set up businesses. She called for more funds to be allocated to Women Representatives to help vulnerable groups set up businesses.
