His Sonko Rescue Team had been instrumental in fetching her from the airport and rushing her to the hospital.

The Senator and his team frequently visited Kibwana before her demise. He also paid for some of Kibwana’s bills.

Mary Kibwana worked as a house help in Jordan and was unfortunate to have been involved in a fire incident when a gas cylinder exploded as she was making tea.

She had been in the country for 10 months before the explosion.

She sustained 47% burns after the fire caught onto her clothes and lower body before spreading to the rest of her body.

She only regained consciousness when her employers kicked her awake while hurling insults at her.

According to Nairobi News, her screams attracted neighbors who called the police.

She was rushed to the hospital where she was detained for six weeks as her employers ignored her requests for them to contact her family and inform her of her plight.

“It wasn’t until they realized I was not getting any better that two doctors were assigned to accompany me back home,” explained the late Kibwana on May 31, 2016.

“When we saw her at the airport, she was in a wheelchair, swathed in bandages and covered from head to toe in a buibui. We did not know the extent of her injuries until we got to the hospital and the doctors uncovered her. I was so pained by her injuries that I broke down,” said  Peter Mbela Mambo, her husband of 15 years as quoted in Nairobi News.
