Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday compared his campaign to that of US president-elect Donald Trump, a man who was laughed off when he declared his presidential ambitions but eventually pulled an unlikely win against Hillary Clinton.

Addressing supporters on Friday at Sultan Hamud Township, Makueni County, Mr Musyoka said that he is the best candidate to unseat President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year’s General Election.

“Donald Trump’s campaign was a movement, and in the same way Kalonzo’s campaign will be a more robust movement that will go everywhere in the country including to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Murang’a, Kiambu backyards, as well as to the North Eastern and the Rift Valley,” he said.

DEFECTING TO OPPOSITION

He said that Jubilee Party should not be surprised “when its members start defecting” to the opposition.

Mr Musyoka took a swipe at the Jubilee administration, especially on its commitment to developing Ukambani. He said the government is “reluctant” to undertake the proposed Konza Techno City in the area.

“Together with former President Mwai Kibaki, we proposed the Konza Techno City… if it had been completed, it  would have seen several youth employed and investors trooping into the country. But the government is reluctant to undertake this project because it falls in Ukambani,” said the former Vice President.

He celebrated the ouster of disgraced Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners and called on MPs to ensure that a more efficient elections team is put in place.

WEEKEND RALLIES

The Cord co-principal was en route to Taita Taveta County for weekend rallies.

He was accompanied by Senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni), Johnstone Muthama (Machakos), and David Musila (Kitui).

Others who joined the caravan that snaked its way through the towns in Makueni County were Wiper MPs from the region as well as Machakos and Makueni Women representatives Susan Musyoka and Rose Museo respectively.

The senators took issue with local leaders who had joined other parties.

Mr Muthama said: “We shall not recognize Jubilee, Muungano, and Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement parties in Ukambani.”
