Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen now claims that CORD leader Raila Odinga pocketed some of the monies stolen from the National Youth Service (NYS).

In what comes as a new twist to the infamous Sh1.6 Billion NYS scandal, Murkomen indicated that Odinga pocketed about Sh100 Million from questionable contracts with the youth agency.

The Senator, who also stands accused in the NYS scam, alleged that some CORD MPs including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed received contracts from the NYS and were paid over Sh100 Million.

“We understand that CORD politicians among them Junet Mohamed were given contracts in the NYS and those contracts amounted to over Sh100 Million. And it is said that when Junet was paid, he took the money to Raila Odinga,” Murkomen claimed.

He added that the CORD brigade was now scheming to shield former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru from being held accountable, in a bid to conceal their role in the scandal.

“I want the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to start investigations on John Mbadi (ODM Chairman) and tell us whether he received any contracts from Anne Waiguru – Maybe that is why he is trying to cleanse and divert attention from her,” Murkomen stated.

A few days ago, Mbadi petitioned PAC Chairman Nicholas Gumbo to summon Murkomen and Deputy President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet for questioning over the NYS scandal.

The ODM chairman, who is also a member of the powerful watchdog committee, said he wanted Murkomen to appear before the team because he has resulted “to address the matter through media and thereby causing more confusion and raising more concerns that require deeper integration.”

The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator is said to have received Sh15 Million from Out of the Box Solutions Limited, a firm that had been contracted by the State Department of Planning but paid out of NYS accounts.

On Tuesday, the senator denied the claims noting that a law firm in which he is a partner – Sing’oei, Murkomen and Sigei Advocates – did not handle money from any client who worked for the NYS.
