Uhuru Picks These Top Millionaires to Head His Campaign in CORD Region

President Uhuru Kenyatta has adopted a new strategy where he has been working with wealthy businessmen and professionals to spearhead the Jubilee Party campaigns in key CORD strongholds.

In Ukambani, Kenyatta appears to have won the support of elite businessmen and professionals who are now working with some of the first time MPs who have defected to the Jubilee Party.

Nairobi-based billionaire tycoon Peter Muthoka, who hails from Machakos, is perhaps the most recognisable figure among the businessmen who have expressed their support for the Jubilee team.

During the President’s tour of Makueni County, Muthoka was given an opportunity to speak at the rallies even though such platforms are rarely accorded to non-politicians.

Muthoka has vast interests in various sectors of the economy and is mostly recognised for the controversy associated with his term as Board Chairman at CMC Motors – he was later ousted and handed a five-year ban from sitting on the board of a publicly listed company.

Another prominent businessman will be Isaac Kalua who is also an environmental activist who heads the Green Africa Foundation.

Unlike Muthoka, Kalua has some political experience having unsuccessfully vied for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in 2002.

The soft-spoken activist has already confirmed the existence of the elite team which he is part of.

“Yes, there’s team that is very neutral and which is removed from internal political competition because we are not interested in elective seats and, therefore, can advise objectively and correctly on the dynamics on the ground,” Kalua revealed.

Sam Muumbi, a millionaire businessman with vast interests in banking and real estate, is also part of the team that will campaign for Jubilee in Makueni County.

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s long-serving business partner, Prof Paul Musili Wambuais also on the list of professionals who will be in Kenyatta’s camp.

Prof Wambua was recently appointed by President Kenyatta to serve as Chancellor of Embu University.

The law scholar hails from Kitui and in the past served as a partner at Musyoka, Wambua, & Katiku advocates (the Wiper Leader’s law firm).

Also on the list is former Chief of General Staff Jeremiah Kianga.
