VIDEO: Watch Businessman Ben Waithaka Getting Battered by a Prison Warder

Nairobi businessman Ben Waithaka was Tuesday assaulted by a prison warder outside Milimani Law Courts for allegedly blocking the road.

According to Mr Waithaka, he was driving from Hillside restaurant -opposite Milimani courts- towards town when one of the officers asked him to move his car off the road and make way for a prison van heading to the court.

“Before I reversed my car, the officer shouted at me. I asked him what was wrong. He slapped me before other officers joined him and bundled me out of the car with kicks and blows,” Waithaka told journalists.

“I ran back to Hillside restaurant where I sought refuge but at least 10 other prison warders followed me, got me out of the restaurant and beat me again.”

The afternoon incident was caught on video and shared widely in social media circles.

In the clip, an officer is seen raining slaps, blows, and kicks on Waithaka as members of the public shout in protest.

Waithaka was then arrested and taken to Upper Hill police post where he was locked up before being released on a cash bail of Sh10,000.

He has since filed a complaint with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) for the assault after going to a hospital and obtaining a p3 form from police.

A police statement alleges that Waithaka blocked the road and fought one of the askaris.

Proprietor of Hillside Restaurant Daniel Munene said he will sue police for storming his premises and assaulting Waithaka who had just had lunch.
