One of the things that stand out when you think about David is that God said of him that he is a man after my own heart.
Acts 13:22 (AMP)
22 And when He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king: of him He testified and said, ‘I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART [conforming to My will and purposes], who will do all My will.’
That is a great compliment coming from God something that many if not all of us would desire that God would say of us. We all know that David had his faults but even with all his faults, his heart was in the right place. What are some of the things that we can learn from his life that would also make us to be men and women after Gods own heart?
Psalm 119:97 (AMP)
97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.
One of the consistent things about men who pleased God is that they loved the word of God. They meditated upon it day and night just like God commanded Joshua to do. God and His word are one thus you cannot say you love God and yet you are disconnected to His word. To read and meditate on His word is to fellowship with Him.
Many of us read the word because we must, we do it as a duty, we do it so as to mark a tick in our bible reading plan. That may be a good starting point but we need to grow and mature from that point. We need to develop a love for God’s word.
Psalm 119:47-48 (AMP)
47 For I shall delight in Your commandments, Which I love.48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments, Which I love; And I will meditate on Your statutes.
That’s where we need to be at; a place where we are so full of the word, every time we open our mouths to speak His word comes out. I have interacted with several men of God on my radio show who greatly challenged me in this area. The word of God is truly hidden in their hearts and every other sentence or wisdom they speak is backed by a scripture. You can also tell that this word has greatly affected their character.
Do you desire to be a man after Gods own heart? It begins by loving His word, truly loving His word, meditating upon it daily and hiding it in your heart.
