DEVOTION: How to live a Blessed New Year-Part 2

This is a very interesting principle. The Lord says:

Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.
Proverbs 8:34

In the book of Revelation, it also says:

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. Revelation 1:3

The primary way that God is speaking to us is through His word. Therefore, when you read God’s word you are hearing His voice. And hearing His voice will bless your life. Let us look at a few of these blessings of reading God’s word.

God’s word gives us peace.

            Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble. Psalm 119:165

God’s word brings joy into our lives

Your testimonies are my heritage forever,
for they are the joy of my heart. Psalm 119:111

God’s word gives us wisdom.

            The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple Psalm 119:130

God’s word guides our footsteps and shows us the right path to follow.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

God’s word gives us hope.

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans 15:4

God’s word leads to salvation.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10

God’s word gives freedom.

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32

God’s word awakens and strengthens our faith

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Romans 10:17

God’s word creates life and sustains it

The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

            John 6:63b

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:30-31

Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God. I Peter 1:23

God’s word gives success and prosperity

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8

I have listed only ten. Of course, space and time are not enough to lists all the blessings that come when we read God’s word. As you can see, reading God’s word your life will be blessed.

This is why; reading God’s word is one way that will enable you to have a blessed New Year 2018.

1.     Can you testify to the above blessings in your life?

2.     What other blessings are there in reading God’s word? Write down these blessings.

3.     In order to maximize these blessings in God’s word, you must read it daily. To achieve progress and motivation, reading chronologically by reading one book after the other. Read one, two, or three chapters a day.

4.     Did you know that if you read 3 chapters a day; you will be able to finish the New Testament in 3 Months? Yes! It is true. The New Testament contains 270 chapters. If you read three chapters a day, in ninety days, you have finished reading the New Testament.

5.     In what ways will your reading of Scripture improve as a result of reading this devotion today?

Blessed is the one, who listens to me,

Watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.

Proverbs 8:34

This is why You Should
