I Told NIS of the Attack, Says Sonko

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has accused the National Intelligence Service of culpability in Saturdayโ€™sย Westgateย attack.

Sonko sensationally claimed in the Senate yesterday that he had two months ago warned the NIS of the imminent attacks but he was ignored.

He made the remarks when the House adjourned to debate the attack in which 69 people died.

Sonko told the Senate that he had received information concerning the attacks from three Asian women, who reside in Westlands and Parklands areas.

He said he had then furnished NIS with information detailing the escapades of the suspected terrorists, who had planned to bomb two private entities and two key national installations.

Sonko said the women had told her that terror attacks were imminent at Westgate and Village Market shopping malls and the two Houses of Parliament.

The suspected terrorists had rented a house in theย women’sย homes but soon started harassing them.

The senator did not elaborate the kind of harassment the women were subjected to.

Sonko said he duly passed the information to NIS and promised the House that he will submit the evidence of the same to parliamentary committees to prove his claims.

He asked NIS director Michael Gichangi to explain the circumstances under which his officers failed to act on the information.

Sonko regretted that the country has in recent times been subjected to a series of terror attacks and asked Gichangi to explain why this is happening.

However, Sonkoโ€™s claims were dismissed by senators Yusuf Haji, Kithure Kindiki and Mohammed Kuti who accused him of casting aspersion on the character of Gichangi.

Haji faulted the him for mentioning people who could not defend themselves in the House.
