How Duale, Ruto convinced me to join politics – Kamukunji MP

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan has attributed the beginning of his political career to President William Ruto and  CS Defence nominee Aden Duale.

Speaking in Parliament buildings on Wednesday, he narrated how the former Garissa Township MP played an important role in his life.

“In 2011, There was a by-election in Kamukunji. I wasn’t really sure about vying at that particular moment,” Hassan said.

It was at this point that Duale together with Ruto called the MP for a meeting at a local hotel where the two tried to persuade him into joining politics.

“I got a call from my brother  Duale and our current President William Ruto. I went to see them and they convinced me that I should vie in Kamukunji.”

“I was convinced and left my UN job for politics and I want to thank him (Duale) for the support,” Hassan said.

On August 18, 2011, the Party of National Unity (PNU) retained the Kamukunji seat after its candidate Yusuf Hassan garnered 19,030 votes to win the by-election.
