It is emerging That Ikolomani Member Of Parliament Boni Khalwale may have rubbed colleagues the wrong way over allegations that MPs were bribed to kill the Public Accounts Committee report on De La Rue.

The report had recommended the sacking of Transport Minister Amos Kimunya and CBK Governor Njuguna Ndungu, over their alleged roles in the loss of 1.8 billion in irregular tendering to money printing firm de la rue.

MPs from both sides of the divide ganged up to reprimand the MP, and the powers and privileges committee has been tasked to look into his claim that MP’s received just 30,000 shillings for their votes. And as John Allan-Namu reports, some say, Khalwale may not have been that far off the mark.

Ikolomani MP Boni Khalwale stirred controversy back in September 2012, accusing fellow MPs of being bribed—reportedly about KSh 30,000 each—to kill a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on a Sh1.8 billion De La Rue (currency printing) contract.

He was subsequently threatened with disciplinary action by MPs who denied the claims and demanded evidence

The 2012 PAC report chaired by Ikolomani MP Boni Khalwale specifically recommended that Transport Minister Amos Kimunya (then Finance Minister) and CBK Governor Njuguna Ndung’u be removed from office.

According to the committee, they were deemed responsible for the loss of approximately KSh 1.83 billion (about $21 million), resulting from the cancellation of a long-term currency-printing contract with De La Rue and its replacement with costlier short-term orders
