NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 22- Outgoing Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro says she will sue the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after the party โgave her Nairobi Senator certificate to Bishop Margaret Wanjiruโ.
Ongoro claims she had won the nomination for the seat after the conclusion of Thursdayโs party primaries and it was unfair to deny her the ticket that she got after former Westlands MP Fred Gumo retired from active politics.
She now wants ODM to reimburse her the money she used to campaign for the seat.
โMy certificate has been stolen yet nobody ever consulted me. I have for the last three years put up a formidable campaign strategy that has cost me over Sh200 million yet no-one has given me the courtesy to consult me,โ Ongoro said.
She accused ODM of rigging her out of the partyโs senatorial candidature and handing her ticket โon a silver platterโ to outgoing Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
According to the partyโs final nominationsโ list released on Tuesday by the ODMโs electionโs board chaired by Franklin Bett, Bishop Wanjiru who was earlier gunning for the Nairobiโs gubernatorial seat but was disqualified in contentious circumstances over her educational background bagged the Nairobiโs senatorial seat ticket.
Ongoro protested the move terming it an โoutright theft.โ
Early this month, the Commission for Higher Education rejected the educational qualifications of Bishop Wanjiru foiling her bid to contest for Nairobi governor in March as she is not considered a graduate.
The list also shows that the Ongoro has been given the Ruaraka Constituency seat, which city lawyer Tom Kajwang had won and was even given a certificate.
On receiving word that he had been stripped of the certificate, Kajwang said the party will have a difficult time in the area trying to convince his supporters to vote for another person who they did not vote for.
Ongoro said the move was in bad faith and went against the โthe very basic tenets of democracyโ, that ODM claims to practice.
