Gitobu Imanyara has conceded defeat to his opponent in the Meru Senate race and said he is mulling retiring from active politics.
Mr Imanyara of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wished Kiraitu Murungi (Alliance Party of Kenya) well in victory.

“I wish to congratulate the Meru County Senator elect Hon Kiraitu Murungi and wish him and all others elected, my best wishes,” he said.
I have now come to the decision that retirement from active politics is the best option. I shall make a further statement later after consultation with the wider family, supporters and well wishers,” said the former Imenti Central MP.
