Makueni Senator elect Johnstone Muthama is now expressing fears over his life attributing it to his political stand and has now written through his lawyer to the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to reinstate his security detail at his house and office.
Muthama claims that there are strange vehicles trailing his movements within Nairobi.
Muthama has further refuted claims that he is facing hate speech charges saying that he was misquoted and that there is no concrete evidence with the police reiterating that he will cooperate with the police in their ongoing investigations.
Muthama who is arguably the most vocal in the Cord team believes that the recent presidential election was not conducted properly, and that is why his coalition will move to the Supreme court to file a petition on Saturday.
A letter written by Police Superintendent William Nangulu ,who is currently the Makadara DCIO, states that Muthama is connected to the alleged hate speech offence or has informaton that may assist the police in their investigations.
The letter states that on Tuesday 12th March, 2013 at the Kibera grounds while addressing a public rally, Muthama uttered the following words;
‘Nyinyi wananchi wenzangu, mnakumbuka nilikuwa na nyinyi nyayo stadium nikiwaambia waizi wamepanga kuiba, wameiba am hawajaiba? Imekuwa ukweli ama uongo? Nikawaambia hivi, wakiiba wataona cha mtema kuni.’
DCIO Nangulu in the letter says that the words were calculated to cause discontent and incitement to violence to the general public attending the rally.
