The Kenyan government has announced plans are underway to develop a monitoring online portal that will monitor conversations, views and issues, allowing it to make informed policy decisions.
Speaking ahead of the launch of the Ministry of Devolution and Planningโs Second Medium Term Plan (MTP) 2013 โ 2017 by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday next week, cabinet secretary Ann Waiguru said the new platform would help the government respond to the needs and concerns raised by Kenyans on social networks.
โWe are at the pilot phase and what it does is that it monitors the social media conversations and so for my ministry in particular, we are keener on seeing what people are saying especially on devolution so that we can be able to address the concerns that are raised. So it is just a monitoring tool,โ she said.
Waiguru said the ministry was initiating key reforms in the public service geared towards improving service delivery at both national and county level.
โWe are just trying to adopt the existing technology to help us inform policy making and to make it more responsive to the needs of the Kenyan people. Through the medium term plan, the government is determined to ensure that devolution is a success,โ she said.
MTP seeks to align county governments to make them efficient and effective in discharging their functions.
