INTERVIEW: Kakenya Ntaiya recognised for helping the girlchild.
She beat unbelievable odds standing up to a deeply rooted tradition that was practiced to keep her and other young Masaai girls like her in a box. Kakenya Ntaiya would have been a poster child for Female Genital Mutilation and early marriage, but her ambition to become a teacher wouldn’t allow her. She has scaled great heights in her lifetime earning a PhD and even opening a school to help save other young Masaai girls from the life she managed to walk away from. Her efforts have earned her a spot in this year’s top ten CNN Heroes. Victoria Rubadiri spoke to Kakenya.
