Victor Munyaka (Machakos town), Itwiku Mbai (Masinga), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), and Francis Mwangangi (Yatta) said Kalonzo should stop playing second fiddle to ODM leader Raila Odinga. They believe he was ‘ripe’ to take over the leadership of the country. Machakos MPs urge Kalonzo to consider this move seriously.
Mbai said ukambani was tired of being placed in the periphery of national politics and time had come for the community to be more assertive.
“We will back Kalonzo if he makes a stab at the presidency in 2017. But if he declines, we will groom somebody else to take a shot at the big seat,” Mbai said. Once again, Machakos MPs urge Kalonzo to seize this opportunity.
Munyaka lashed out at Raila for alleging that the military took part in rigging him out in the last polls. He said it was a careless statement which had no proof and basis. He urged the former prime minister to retract it.
“It was dangerous for Raila to make such a careless statement which can impact negatively on the nation’s security and stability,” Munyaka said.
Engineer Musyoka said time had come for Kalonzo to part ways with Raila. They believe the ODM leader was now a spent force and had little chance in ruling the country. Hence, Machakos MPs urge Kalonzo to make bold decisions for the future.
The Mwala MP said it was also necessary for Machakos leaders to unite. They need to forge a common front ahead of the next general elections.
They were speaking at Ikalaasa location in Mwala sub-county at a function also attended by Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala and Women Representative Dr Susan Musyoka.
“The county remains politically in Cord. However, we will engage with the Jubilee government to ensure our people get development,” Kiala said.
Dr Musyoka urged Machakos women to form groups. This way, they could benefit from government funds and from other organizations that were out to economically empower their lot.
The Machakos county executive in charge of water, Eng Francis Maliti, said the county government will drill 100 boreholes in each of the eight constituencies of the county to alleviate water problems.
