Amos Kimunya charged with abuse of office and fraud
Former Cabinet Minister Amos Kimunya was on Monday charged with abuse of office and fraudulently disposing public land.
The former Kipipiri MP faced six counts of abuse of office.
He was charged alongside Lillian Njenga, a former director of land adjudication and Junghae Wainaina, the chairman of the board of Midlands Limited.
The former minister appeared in court at 9am and was represented by lawyer Mwaniki Gachoka.
The accused persons were freed on Sh1 million cash bail.
Mr Kimunya was arrested on Friday, two days after the Director of Public Prosecutions authorised charges against him over the irregular allocation of a piece of land to a firm where he was a director.
Mr Keriako Tobiko had, in a statement, said when Mr Kimunya was Lands Minister, he allocated 25 acres in Nyandarua to Midlands Ltd-a company where he was a director and shareholder- without consent of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The land was part of 75-acres belonging to the ministry that had been reserved for a potato seed multiplication project.
