Kericho, Kenya:ย Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony is the latest county boss to face the wrath of County Assembly members after 32 of them voted to remove him from office.
All 32 MCAs who were in the chamber voted in support of the impeachment motion. 15 other MCAs did not turn up for the debate and were said to be holed up in a hotel.
The County assembly had listed five grounds for impeachment of the governor including alleged unprocedural recruitment and creating offices in the county contrary to the provision of Sections 59, 60, 61 and 62 of the county government Act.
Other accusations are unlawfully procuring or permitting procurement of goods and services without following due process of law contrary to the provision of public procurement and disposal Act, violating the provision of the county government Act and public procurement Act on grants and donation received and failing to follow due process regarding public and private partnership.
Chepkwony was also accused of allegedly violating the provisions of Article 226(5),220(2)and 73(2)(c)(1) of the constitution and lastly he is accused of allegedly exposing the country to risk or loss and/or liability by entering into agreements without following due process of law with full knowledge that funds are not available.
