A Kibera court has allowed a Kisumu voter to commence private prosecutions against former Prime Minister Raila Odinga over allegations of making inflammatory statements.
Mr Aaron Shayo sought to sue Raila over statements he made at a rally in Kisumu on January 17 against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that he says were inflammatory.
Magistrate Brian Khaemba allowed Mr Shayo to serve Mr Odinga and Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko with the order to commence private prosecutions.
Through lawyer Irunguย Kangโata, Mr Shayo wants to prosecute Raila for allegedly speaking words that amounted to hate speech.
The former Prime Minister is reported to have claimed that IEBC used the military to eject Cord agents from the national tallying centre at Bomas during the 2013 General Election.
