Kenyan Woman Passes Away in her Sleep in UK

A Kenyan lady has passed away in UK. The late Felista Wairimu Howsley passed away in her sleep on Monday 20th October, 2014. Felista Wairimu who comes from Kahugu-ini, Ichaweri, , Kiambu arrived in UK in 1964.

Felista Wairimu Howsley was born in Kiambu Kenya the second born child of Francis Kimotho Njoroge and Jane Njeri Njoroge. Felistas  sibblings include the late Joseph Chege, Mary Wanjiru, John Muturi, Scola Wambui and Stephen Mberi.

Felista  managed a coffee business and later worked as a nurse for many years both in Kenya and England. She married Michael Howsley and lived most of her life in Lancashire. Felista is survived by 5 children; Mbogua Njoroge (Australia), Lucy Wahu Gatonye, Jane Njeri, Mary Wanjiru, Helen Wambui and her last born Michael who passed away in January 2014 after a short illness.

She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Felista had a passion for music and hugely enjoyed the work of Elvis Presley, Kenyan musician Kamaru, Brenda Fassie as well as the work of Simon Cowell and Jeremy Kyle. She was also gifted with artistry making ornate African walking sticks and knitting.  In July 2013 Felista travelled solely to Australia, a journey of 25 hours to visit her son and family.

Once in Australia she toured around the country enjoying the sights and Australian hospitality and enjoyed in particular visiting the 3 sisters a sacred aboriginal touristic sight. She was received very well by the Australia people. They threw a special farewell dinner for her.

We planned to have her back in Australia every year avoiding the winter months in England. She also travelled widely to other countries including Singapore, Austria, Cyprus, Kenya and many more. Felista was a devoted catholic and monitored closely the changes happening in the catholic system. she attended mass on numerous occasions but refused to take sacrament because she had not confessed.

Felista was a true African Lady polite, loving and always full of fun she readily shared. Felista Wairimu   was loved and cherished dearly by so many and will be greatly missed. The Family of Felista Wairimu wishes to express our most sincere thanks for your support and expressions of love during our bereavement .
