A PREMIER LEAGUE footballer has appealed for a treasured shirt stolen from his home to be returned to him.
Wanyama said that his football mementos meant more to him than expensive possessions
Southampton player Victor Wanyama, 23, returned from Mondayโs match against Aston Villa in Birmingham to discover that his Winchester home had been broken into and his possessions looted.
One of the missing items was his most cherished football memento, a shirt worn by Barcelona star Andres Iniesta when Wanywamaโs old side Celtic beat the Spanish giants.
In the memorable Champions League fixture at Celtic Park in 2012, Wanyama netted the opener to help Celtic beat the La Liga side 2-1, and swapped shirts with Iniesta after the game.
Now the Kenyan international, who moved to Southampton for ยฃ12.5 million in July 2013, is appealing for the return of the shirt and other items that were stolen, including a shirt from Juventus footballer Paul Pogba.
Three televisions, 30 pairs of shoes, designer clothes, jewellery and electrical goods were also stolen in the raid.
A ยฃ60,000 Range Rover Sport was also taken but later found.
The Southampton player appealed for anyone who spots the shirt on eBay to contact the club
Wanyama said: โI lost a lot of things, but the most important were the football memories.
โI lost many souvenir shirts of my Champions League football, and also some of the opponents, like Iniesta and Pogba.
โIf anyone sees them being put out somewhere like eBay then can I ask they get in touch with me at the club?
โI would love to get them back. They bring very important memories for me.โ
Wanyama, who is currently enjoying a brilliant start to the season as high-flying Southampton sit second in the English top-flight, made his name at Celtic.
Before his multi-million move to Saints last season, he won the Scottish league with Celtic in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
He also won the Scottish Cup in 2012-13 and was voted SPL Young Player of the Year in the 2012-13 season.
He has also represented his national side 31 times.
