Speaking outside the Homa Bay police station where he recorded a statement, Kajwang’ said the youths started shouting and hurling insults at him when he moved to the podium to make his speech.

Kajwang’ sustained injuries on his left ear and  neck  and  was rushed to Homa Bay District Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

He claimed that the youths arrived at the venue with Homa Bay branch secretary James Rege who is also the Karachuonya MP and his Rangwe counterpart, George Oner.

“The youths came there with two legislators who I believe know their whereabouts. I am going to report this matter to the IEBC so that punitive measures can be taken against those involved,” Kajwang’ told journalists.

Homa Bay women representative Gladys Wanga, Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang’ and the ODMs candidate’s campaign communication Officer George Mboya who accompanied him to the police station condemned the incident.

Wanga said the attack is a sign of jealousy arising from the victory that Kajwang’ is sure to achieve in the election.

“Last time they threw stones at us at Olare trading centre and today they are doing this. This is a sign of defeat,” Wanga said.

“Let police take punitive measures against those responsible in order to assure our candidate of his safety,” Tom Kajwang’ said.

The incident was also condemned by Mandeleo Democratic Party candidate and former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo who also attended the funeral .

“I want to urge our young people to embrace peace so that we have a peaceful by-election,” Okundi said.

This is the second time this week that ODM candidate has been attacked. On Thursday, a group of youths pelted his team with stones at Oriang’ market. Kajwang’s supporters were also  attacked last month at Olare market, leaving several of them injured.
